Ed Ross Honored For Decades of Service to MCFCA

Ed Ross, who stepped down recently as Treasurer of the Montgomery County Fire Chief’s Association after serving in that capacity for 40 years, was honored for his decades of service at the organizations meeting in March at Flourtown Fire Company, Station 6.

Montgomery County Commissioner Leslie Richards presented Ed with a proclamation signed by all three commissioners and the Fire Chief’s Association presented his a plaque in appreciation for his service.

Ed joined the fire service in 1949 and served as a firefighter and line officer at several companies in New York and New Jersey before moving to Whitpain Township in 1965.

He joined the Centre Square Fire Company that year, where he has served on numerous occasions as Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, President and Treasurer of both the company and its relief association, and Captain of Fire Police.

Ed, a Life Member of the Montgomery County Fire Chief’s Association, served that organization as its Treasurer from 1972 to 2012 and continues to serve as Assistant Treasurer.

In addition, Ed Ross served as an instructor at the Montgomery County Fire Training School from 1969 to 1976 and was recognized with an award for his exemplary service there and numerous awards for all of the other jobs he has filled. Montgomery County Fire Chiefs enter the Computer Age

The Montgomery County Fire Chief’s Association has purchased a laptop to keep the association records for membership data, financial data and other pertinent information of importance to the association.

The laptop is in the possession of the Treasurer. It will be at the meetings of the association and will be available to the members who request information as to their standing in the association, such as length of service, addresses, e-mail addresses, fire company affiliation, etc.

We are connected to the Internet and have access to the various county, state and Federal web sites.

Historic Marker to be Unveiled Honoring Country’s First Volunteer Fire Company

Fire Companies throughout Montgomery County are invited to the 275th Anniversary of the founding of the Union Fire Company in Philadelphia. A Historic Marker will be unveiled and a celebration is being planned at the nearby Fireman’s Hall, hosted by the Philadelphia Fire Department.

MCFCA Announces Dues Increase for 2011

To All Members:

At the November 16, 2010 meeting of the Montgomery County Fire Chiefs Association, a resolution was passed to increase the annual dues to $5.00 per year. The amount due for new membership was increased to $6.00.

These increases are effective with the year 2011.
